The truth behind biodegradable wipes

Whilst there are many claims that wipes are biodegradable, there are two things that may not have been taken into consideration that could dramatically increase the time the wipe takes to de compose.
Firstly, the addition of chemicals to the wipe by third parties. Whilst some manufacturers re-test the product after the chemical has been added, the majority probably do not. Therefore whilst the original fibre may have been classed as biodegradable, the modified product is not.
Secondly, it depends on what the wipe has been cleaning. By adding this into the mix, again it may render the wipe non-biodegradable. To be environmentally friendly, the end user would have to conduct a separate test after the wipes have been used for each situation or chemical used in the cleaning process.
